The area on Highway 82 where Lisa Sabatka, who was on foot, was struck by a vehicle headed eastbound toward Aspen on the night of Saturday, Dec. 14. Sabatka lived at Aspen Country Inn, which is served by bus stops on the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 82, where the marked speed limit is 45 miles per hour. At the conclusion of a victim-impact statement submitted to the deputy district attorney, Sabatka’s mother urged officials “to look into making the bus stop on (Highway) 82 safer for pedestrians. They should reduce the speed limit back to 35 mph, put a crosswalk closer to the bus stop, or maybe an underground passage, and add more lights. We can only hope something changes so another family does not have to go through the pain of losing a loved one so suddenly.” Jason Charme/Aspen Daily News
